Troubleshooting
Fix the most common SoundSlap problems
Most SoundSlap issues come from one layer in the chain: Twitch extension activation, dashboard permissions, overlay connection, OBS audio routing, or sound settings. Start with the symptom below.
Panel
Panel says offline
The extension panel can show offline when the extension is not activated, the channel has disabled the panel, Twitch auth needs a refresh, or no eligible sounds are enabled.
- Confirm SoundSlap is activated as a panel extension in Twitch.
- Open the SoundSlap dashboard and check panel status.
- Make sure the panel is not paused from the safety controls.
- Confirm at least one sound is enabled and has a valid Bits or Channel Points option.
- Reconnect Twitch if the dashboard shows missing permissions.
- Refresh the Twitch channel page after saving dashboard changes.
If the dashboard works but the viewer panel does not, test in a private browser window to rule out stale Twitch page state.
Audio
Alert shows but no sound plays
A visible alert with no sound usually means the overlay is connected but audio is muted, routed incorrectly, or the sound file has an issue.
- Check global mute and per-sound volume in the dashboard.
- Run a dashboard Test Slap with OBS open.
- Watch the OBS audio mixer for movement on the browser source or desktop audio channel.
- Check Advanced Audio Properties for monitor/output settings.
- Refresh the browser source and test another sound.
- If only one sound fails, re-upload or replace that sound.
Do not troubleshoot Twitch payments until a dashboard test can play through OBS. Payment flow and overlay audio are separate layers.
Redemptions
Bits or Channel Points redemptions are missing
If a viewer can see the panel but redemptions do not produce alerts, check transaction validation, reward permissions, sound enablement, and queue/safety state.
- Confirm the sound is enabled and has the correct payment type active.
- Check whether the panel is paused or the queue is capped.
- For Bits, confirm the Bits price displayed in the panel matches the saved dashboard price.
- For Channel Points, confirm the Twitch Custom Reward is active and connected to SoundSlap.
- Review dashboard history to see whether the redemption was accepted, rejected, queued, or failed playback.
Missing history usually points to Twitch auth or event delivery. Failed playback history usually points to overlay or OBS issues.
Subscribers
Viewer sees a subscribers-only message
Subscriber-only mode intentionally blocks non-subscribers from triggering SoundSlaps. If a subscriber is blocked by mistake, check Twitch identity sharing, extension capabilities, and broadcaster permissions.
- Confirm Subscribers only is actually meant to be enabled in Settings.
- Ask the viewer to share Twitch identity in the extension panel if prompted.
- Confirm the viewer is subscribed to the same channel where the extension panel is active.
- Reconnect Twitch from the dashboard if subscriber-read permission is missing.
- Confirm Subscription Status is enabled for SoundSlap in the Twitch Developer Console.
- Refresh the Twitch channel page after changing extension capabilities or dashboard settings.
If the panel says subscriber status is unavailable, treat it as a setup issue rather than a sound issue. The sound, price, and overlay can all be correct while Twitch subscriber status is not available to the extension yet.
Twitch auth
Reconnect Twitch when permissions change
Twitch permissions can expire, be revoked, or need new scopes after SoundSlap adds features. Reconnecting is the cleanest fix when the dashboard warns about missing permissions.
- Log in to Twitch as the broadcaster account, not a viewer account.
- Open the SoundSlap dashboard and start the reconnect flow.
- Review the requested permissions and approve them if they match the features you want to use, including subscriber-read access for Subscribers only mode.
- Return to the dashboard and confirm the warning is gone.
- Run a dashboard test and a Twitch panel test after reconnecting.
If you manage multiple channels, double-check that the browser is logged into the correct Twitch account before reconnecting.
